Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage Indian head massage has been practised in Ancient India and other Asian countries for over 5000 years.

This treatment involves massage, shiatsu and acupressure techniques on the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face. This relaxes areas of tension and may also help to rebalance the vital energy flowing through the body.

It is a popular therapy that promotes a general sense of well-being.

There is some suggestion that Indian Head Massage may aid:

  • Relief from headaches
  • Relaxation of the scalp
  • Promotion of more restful sleep
  • Ease tension, pain and stiffness in the scalp, neck and shoulders
  • Facial congestion
  • Produce a sense of well-being

What happens during an Indian Head Massage treatment?

During treatment, you can remain fully clothed, and will be seated on a comfortable, low-backed chair. The massage is normally done with bare shoulders, although if preferred it can also be done through light clothing. With regards to the latter, ideally, a light, fitted top or shirt should be worn, to allow easy access to the neck, shoulders, upper back and arms. At your first appointment you will be asked questions about your health and lifestyle, so that I can tailor the treatment to your specific requirements*. Then different types of massage and pressure are applied to the neck and shoulders, upper arms, scalp and face. This works on the meridian lines and acupressure points of the upper body, leaving you feeling relaxed and revitalised. The treatment concludes with a rebalancing of the four higher chakras; the heart, throat, brow and crown chakras. These are concerned with our emotions, communication and expression, inner vision, and thinking and decision making. As you will appreciate, it is essential that all these aspects of ourselves are in balance, so that we can move forward in a positive and effective way. Treatment time is 45 minutes.

Are oils used on the scalp?

I do not usually use oil on the scalp as it obviously leaves an oily residue, which for most people is impractical. However, organic massage wax will be used on the neck, shoulders and arms, unless you specifiy otherwise.
